The burning bush that caught the eye of a guy named Moses was really just an on-ramp, a culturally relevant means to get the attention in ways that lead to conversation with God. Moses walked toward that bush out of curiosity & peaked interest, but he walked away with an authentic God-encounter, & a mad mission to cultivate friendship with God & help bring justice & generosity to a people in great need. 24-7, an urban burning bush, is made up of branches/people from all over the city. Called to be a resource for the churches & a refuge for the spiritually hungry, 24-7 uses intensely creative & culturally relevant on-ramps to instigate intimacy with God & involvement in social justice, it's what we do. It's all we do. This Charlotte 24-7 is a local branch of a global prayer movement called 24-7Prayer.

History of 24-7Prayer Movement

The 24-7 Prayer movement began in 1999 with a single Prayer Room in England, set up by a group of young people in England. In this room they prayed without ceasing in one-hour shifts for several weeks, inspired by the example of the 18th century Moravians who had such an impact on men like John Wesley through their model of 'unbroken prayer. As people were attracted to the Prayer Room in Chichester, word spread and the idea caught on in other churches as well as on university campuses. Unceasing & 8 years later, there have been 24-7 Prayer Rooms in almost every nation, in most denominations & in locations as diverse as the U.S. Naval Academy & a German Punk Festival. Hundreds of non-stop prayer meetings now link up here on the web to form a unique chain of prayer. This movement, initially based on youth & young adults coming alive & seeking the heart of the Father with incredible hunger & zeal, has spread among those of all ages, as God is stirring hearts throughout the nations to both pray & work to bring justice & mercy to the world around them.

Local 24-7

There was once a breed of men & women who prayed until the job was done. Not content to merely pray prayers, these were the kind who went after results. And would settle for nothing less than the goodness & will of God brought to fruition. Rather than simply praying hard, they also prayed smart. Learning to discern God’s voice & learning to live in ways that made it possible to be entrusted with great spiritual authority, Jesus could give them strategy & count on their partnership in ways that made the transformation of a city possible. These kinds of men & women were called…disciples. These were not perfect people. They were, however, passionate toward God & persistent against Hell. With reckless abandon they worshiped like love sick poets, & through prayer & serving, fought like great warriors of old for God’s will to be done not just for themselves but for their generation. At 24-7 it’s our endeavor to make & be apprentices, disciples of Christ, intimate with God, somebodys & nobodys from all over the city’s Christian faith community, praying,serving, & living in ways that help prepare the way for the transformation of a generation. -This is who we are.

24-7 ACCOUNTABILITY:

This local 24-7 is accountable to Global 24-7 with regards to our 24-7Prayer weeks, & is accountable to National 24-7 with regard to our prayer room working toward obtaining Boiler Room status. Locally, we submit our organizational affairs to a board called The Counsel , made up of local Pastors, Chief Rectors, & Ministry leaders from across a wide diversity of denominational lines. These individuals provide ministry & fiscal oversight to Charlotte 24-7, & speak wisdom & counsel into all areas our mission.
